# About Atheni — The AI Adoption Company

Atheni, founded by Mackenzie Howe and Louise Ballard, builds AI capability, not just access. Backed by Alex Chesterman OBE and supported by Innovate UK.

Atheni was founded in 2023 to answer one question: why is the AI that organisations have already bought sitting unused on the desktop?

The answer is that AI adoption and capability is a human challenge, not a technology one. We call the practice of moving people from access to capability, one real task at a time, guided AI adoption.

- **Mackenzie Howe**, co-founder. Human capital economist with a specialism in applied AI; adjunct faculty at Durham University Business School.
- **Louise Ballard**, co-founder. Thirty years working with businesses through change, from investment banking to the energy transition and now AI; leads the Wise Five initiative on AI literacy and co-wrote Expiry Date: Never with Victoria Tomlinson.
